As of 11.00pm on November 13, it has been advised that Malaga will remain on RED alert until 8.00am Thursday November 14.

The Costa del Sol has received a battering from the latest DANA weather phenomenon to hit the south coast in 2 weeks with flooding, tornadoes, and torrential rains in the Malaga region.

In Puerto Banús, boats were tossed from side to side as tornadoes made landfall and ripped beach bars and service stations to pieces along the coastline. Roof-tiles have been torn from residential buildings by the strong winds as torrents run down hillsides and through urban areas, dragging cars and rubbish containers with them.

Shops and ground-floor dwellings have had their floors flooded as the street drains have been unable to cope with the massive amounts of water creating rivers in streets. The relatively flat Malaga city centre has converted into a mini-Venice with water levels rising several centimetres. Lines of the Metro in Malaga have had to be temporarily closed. Malaga airport is temporarily closed as the facilities have been filling with floodwaters.

Dramatic images have been pouring in of the Guardia Civil and civil protection volunteers transporting zodiac boats to the worst-affected flood areas.
