THE United States has taken the lead as the top foreign investor in the Murcia region over the past decade, injecting more than €1.8 billion into local projects.
U.S. takes the lead in foreign investment in Murcia
This increase in investment comes at a pivotal moment, as Americans have just elected Donald Trump as their new president, adding further interest in the U.S.-Murcia economic connection.
Major American companies drive job growth in the Region
U.S. companies have launched several major projects in the region, resulting in thousands of new jobs. Among the standout projects are Crown Holdings’ acquisition of the former Mivisa, PepsiCo’s new Alvalle plant opened in 2019, and Amazon’s recent €165 million investment in two facilities in the southeastern industrial area of Murcia. Additionally, Panattoni’s logistics centre for Estrella de Levante and Corteva Agriscience’s purchase of the Murcia-based startup Symborg are making waves in the local economy.
Regional Minister highlights Murcia s appeal for global investors
Marisa López Aragón, the regional Minister of Business, notes that Murcia has established itself as a dependable destination for global investments. Companies are drawn here by the favourable business climate. Moreover, exports from Murcia to the U.S. have risen by 46 per cent over the past five years, with 699 local businesses actively trading in the American market.
